Humble Sea Brewing 🍺 5560 Pacific Coast Hwy, Pacifica CA 94044 Mon - Tue: 3PM-8PM Wed - Fri: 12PM-9PM Sat - Sun: 11AM-9PM “Humble Sea started as a fiercely underfunded collaboration between 3 childhood friends from the Santa Cruz Mountains. The brewery was bootstrapped on a 1 barrel brewing system our cofounder,Nick’s grandmother-in-law’s farm in rural Ben Lomond before the boys had enough guts (and bucks) to open the brewery and taproom on the Westside of Santa Cruz. We like to think of our beer as vehicle for change. Romantic right? But really, who wants to save whales without drinking a beer? Since the beginning we’ve obsessed over the humble vision of becoming a community hub to support ocean-based causes and human rights issues. We’ve raised tens of thousands of dollars and gobs of awareness for local groups and non-profits thanks to the community of Santa Cruz, the Bay Area, and beyond (we see you Sacramento). But first, there was homebrew. In 2009, our head brewer Nick Pavlina, began homebrewing under the alias of Humble Sea. After several national homebrew medals he pitched opening a brewery in late 2014 to cofounders Taylor West and Frank Scott Krueger. Collaboration occurred. A team formed. Humble Sea Brewing Co. ascended upwards and into billowy fog of soft water profiles and Southern Hemispheric aromas.

The marine layers of fog that come and go here are unlike any climate I’ve ever lived in. I drove down to the coastline at Pacifica after supper last night, about an hour or two before sunset. The light was constantly changing as the fog blew in and out and about. A lone fisherman caught my eye/attention...also had the drone up for a bit as well. Just some late day views”

Yes, Pacifica has a castle…that is historic Sam’s Castle. Originally built by the McCloskey family after the 1906 SF earthquake. From there many interesting folk occupied it & Sam Mazza was the last owner who filled it with his passion for antiques & left it to be in the hands of the now, Sam Mazza Foundation. Since then, there have been ghost hunters intrigued with it and a music salon series is now offered along with monthly tours. Make it a weekend getaway, book a room at one of 7 local hotels, tour the castle, then visit the Coastside Museum & pick up a brick of Pacifica Jack Cheese, get in a coastal hike or a round of golf along with good eats. Photos ©y by Janice & George. “About 20 minutes north of Half Moon Bay is a tiny hidden gem of a town called Pacifica (one of the cutest beach towns near San Francisco). Pacifica is a charming and underrated surf town – with the tremendous honor of having the most beautiful Taco Bell in the world. That’s right… in the world! It’s right on the beach. So, if washing down your chalupa with a mountain dew margarita isn’t enough, you get to watch the surfers as you do it. But after you fill up on tacos, take a hike through wetlands and up the infamous Bootlegger’s Steps in Mori Point. On second thought, maybe it’s better to hike first, then fill up later. Joking aside, you don’t have to eat at the Taco Bell. Pacifica has other restaurants too, like Breakers (for breakfast, brunch or lunch) and Nick’s Rockaway, a local institution. (But don’t miss at least seeing the Taco Bell – coz it really is beautiful in a boho Cali kind of way.) As for hiking, there are actually quite a few hikes in the area, none of them too challenging.
